This set piece was created so certain actions would trigger others. For example, the fan would blow an umbrella along a track that hit a target. The target movement triggered a boot to kick a ball that rolled down a ramp into a bucket. The weight of the ball moved a pivot to activate the gear movement. This swung the hammer, which hit the igniter that lit the flame etc, etc.
